About the Book

In the book, Culture Shock: Veteran's Guide to Adjustment, a step by step plan is presented for veterans, especially combat veterans, to reacclimate into the general population. These eight chapters guide veterans in solving their issues and overcoming their obstacles. Within the book there are also stories of real veterans who struggled with their adjustment and prevailed with use of the points and plan within this book. Ultimately, it is the author's real world experience and genuine care for veterans and troops that bring this text to life.
About the Author: Omnisun Azali fought in the Iraq War during 2006-2007. He enlisted the previous year as a teenager with only a single request: 'Get me on the front lines.' In Iraq he served in a Recon Sniper platoon as a scout. For the remainder of his enlistment, he attempted to find balance between garrison and warfare. At discharge, he requested an appointment with a psychologist. The psychologist, after a mere five minute meeting told Azali to pick up his anti-depressants prescription at the counter. Unsatisfied with the dismissive notion of 'drug first, ' he began to develop this plan that he tested first on himself during his years in college. He graduated with a 3.9 GPA in 22 months earning a bachelor's degree. During his time in school, he shaped and polished this plan for adjustment found within Culture Shock. He gave the points and plan to various veterans in both Southern California, where he attended school, and throughout the nation wherever he knew veterans struggled with adjusting to the general population. They found the same success and peace of mind as Azali. And it was their success that validated publishing Culture Shock to reach more veterans. Other factors in publishing this book were two battle buddy war vets, one died in Iraq and the other committed suicide in South Korea. The author wanted to honor fallen soldiers while solving issues that may lead to suicide. Azali lives with his wife and two children. He splits his time between Northeast Ohio and Botswana.
