Er packt seine Sachen und macht sich mit seinem klapprigen Mercedes auf eine ziellose Reise durch Europa. In der Bretagne trifft er seinen alten Freund und Mentor Otto, der dort zusammen mit ein paar Aussteigern die Strandbar "Chez Otto" betreibt. Auf der Suche nach dem verlorenen Lebensgefühl der alten Studentenzeiten realisiert er nicht, wie sehr er sich vom Leben entfernt hat. In seiner Welt aus Rausch und Depression gefangen, lässt er sich von einem Tag in den nächsten treiben und wird immer mehr zu einem emotionslosen Außenseiter - bis ihn eine Reihe tragischer Ereignisse wieder in die Realität zurückholen und er vor schweren Entscheidungen steht ... Tom Gapski entwirft mit seinem Roman ein dramaturgisch geschicktes, beinah philosophisch anmutendes Roadmovie, dessen Figuren sich - verloren in einer neuen, fremden Welt mit sich wandelnden Freund- und Feindbildern - neu orientieren und (er)finden müssen. Es ist nicht nur eine Geschichte über Verlust und Sehnsucht, sondern auch über die Kraft von Freundschaft und Liebe.
About the Author: Tom Gapski wurde 1964 in Rheinland-Pfalz geboren und kam 1984 zum Studium des Planungswesens und des Lebens nach Berlin. Nach seinem Ingenieursstudium und einer Anstellung als Stadtplaner wechselte er ins Filmgeschäft, wo er unter anderem für Requisite und Szenenbild arbeitete. Nach der Geburt seines Sohnes orientierte er sich erneut neu und wurde Erzieher. Heute arbeitet er an einer Schule in Berlin Neukölln. Tom Gapski war Mitglied in Bands unterschiedlichster musikalischer Ausrichtungen und spielte Funk, Blues, Punkrock und Rock am Bass, dem Saxophon, der Gitarre und dem Mikrofon. Zurzeit ist er Mitglied der Rockband Quarterbrain und lebt mit Frau und Kind in Berlin-Neukölln. Côte Sauvage wurde in Toulouse geschrieben.
