Quando comincia la divisione' tra Europa e Asia, tra Occidente e Oriente, tra pensiero greco e pensiero barbaro' e via dicendo con parziali, se non artificiose in molti casi, quanto pericolose definizioni di scontro-incontro tra la civilta' (altro termine pericolosissimo) asiatica e quella europea (anch' esse convenzioni geografiche quanto mai elastiche nel corso dei secoli)? In realta esiste un momento in cui la parabola storica del bacino mediterraneo orientale si flette, sterza bruscamente e produce una frattura tra le culture delle poleis greche e la sponda orientale dell' Egeo, dalla quale si distaccheranno non solo politicamente ma, soprattutto per quel che ci riguarda, culturalmente. Da un certo punto in poi il mondo ellenico percepisce quello orientale come diverso' da se, e questa sensazione (tradotta abbastanza presto in realta dei fatti) e un' eredita che noi europei delterzo millennio ci portiamo ancora dietro. Stefano Piacenti, romano, si e laureato in Storia della Musica a Roma con Fedele D' Amico e ha studiato recitazione alla Scuola del Teatro di Roma diretta da Franco Enriquez e indi formatosi alla scuola di Giorgio Strehler. Figlio d' arte, fin dal 1972 lavora dapprima come aiuto regista e mimo (Teatro alla Scala), indi debutta come regista nell' opera lirica a vent' anni prima al Teatro Eliseo di Roma, poi allo Sperimentale di Spoleto. Da allora ha collaborato con i registi piu importanti nel cinema e nel teatro di prosa e d' opera. Ha firmato una ottantina di regie musicali, affrontando tutto il repertorio melodrammatico dal barocco al contemporaneo, e una trentina nel teatro di prosa che lo vedono presente in importanti cartelloni nei vari teatri italiani ed esteri. Ha fondato, diretto o fatto parte di importanti compagnie e istituzioni di prosa e musicali, tra le quali il Bussottioperaballet (BOB) di Sylvano Bussotti per otto anni, l' Ente Arena di Verona, la Compagnia La Maschera di Meme Perlini, regista stabile per dieci anni del Festival Pucciniano, la Compagnia Stabile di Benevento (SOLOT) e quella di Viterbo (TSL), etc. Quale autore drammatico debutta nel 1990 con Opera Buffa alla Rassegna Citta Spettacolo di Benevento. Da allora ha dato alle scene altri lavori originali e ha tradotto e messo in scena diversi autori di lingua inglese e francese. Ha pubblicato con diverse case editrici libri di saggistica e suoi testi drammatici. Dal 1984 insegna in Accademie di Belle Arti (Venezia, Carrara, Firenze e, dal 2005, Roma) quale titolare della cattedra di Storia dello Spettacolo. Partecipa come docente di arte scenica a importanti stages e masters di prosa e opera lirica. E presente quale opinionista teatrale in diverse trasmissioni televisive di radio e televisioni pubbliche e private. Attualmente dirige il Centro Attivita e Studi Teatrali della Tuscia.
