While on their honeymoon, the African Prince Jabu and his newly wed wife the lovely princess Zay Zay, along with their escort entourage, are attacked by a group of ruthless slavetraders, and within moments, the future, which had been filled with promise for the young couple, becomes a nightmare. Left for dead, Prince Jabu awakens to find that his escort entourage have all been slain, and that his loving Princess and her four handmaidens haven been taken into captivity. Vowing to find and rescue them, the Prince seeks aid from a mysterious old medicine woman, who, while nursing his wounds, reveals that the perilous journey upon which he is about to embark has all been foretold by the ancestors.... and thus the 'dark odyssey' begins....
....meanwhile, the courageous Princess Zay Zay, who is also being inspired by the guiding forces of the ancestral spirits, plans her escape and defiantly resist her captors at every turn, even unto the depths of the dungeons of the costal slavecastles...
Accompanied by Bobo his best friend and personal bodyguard, Prince Jabu leads a group of determined warriors through the jungles of Africa, crossing enemy territory, pressing ever onward towards the slavecastles on the coast where he hopes to mount a rescue. But alas, he arrives too late, and must watch from shore while the slaveship carrying his Princess westward disappears on the horizon....
.... undetered, Prince Jabu hires the assistance of Suliman and his band of cut throat Moorish pirates, and together they brave everything from killer hurricanes to European war ships, as they cross the Atlantic venturing even onto the very shores of the southern United States........
.... coming ashore, Prince Jabu and his small band wreck havoc throughout the southern countryside as they search relentlessly for Princess Zay Zay.
Meanwhile, the tenacious young Princess, who has discovered that she is pregnant with her husband's heir, continues to hold on the hope of being rescued. Singled out by one of her captors, the young Master Johnathan, who has become enchanted by her, the Princess reluctantly accepts his assistance. Defying his father and his heritage, young Johnathan risks his fortune and inheritance to possess the Princess, but ends up losing everything, while all around him the culminating events continue to be governed by the ever-present spirits of the African Ancestors......
