Identitätsentwicklung in einer krisenhaften Spätmoderne: Aus der Sicht der Sozialpsychologie stellt sich die Frage, ob und wie in Gesellschaften 'ohne Projekt', ohne übergreifende, sinnstiftende 'Metaerzählungen', die Individuen noch kohärente Selbste bilden und bewahren könne. Denn die einzelnen sehen sich beständigen Umbauforderungen ihrer Identität ausgesetzt. Diskutiert werden zunächst neuere psychologische Theorien der Identitätsentwicklung als 'Kommentare zu einer krisenhaften Spätmoderne' (J.E. Marcia, C. Camilleri und Glynis Breakwell). Sie zeugen alle von einer wachsenden Skepsis gegenüber dem normativen Anspruch einer 'gelingenden Identität'. Ein weiterer Schritt stellt die Frage nach der Kohärenz des Erlebens. Ausgangspunkt ist die Multiple Persönlichkeitsstörung als Extremfall psychischer Dissoziation. Gefragt wird nach den normativen Einlagerungen in das Konzept der Kohärenz.
Als theoretisches Modell wird schließlich das Konzept der narrativen Identität vorgeschlagen: Identität wird erzählend konstruiert. Die einzelnen arbeiten sich ab an dem Repertoire an Selbst-Geschichten, das in einer Gesellschaft möglich ist. Das Erzählen ist ein sozialer Austauschprozeß, denn jede Selbst-Narration muß von anderen bestätigt werden. Ein wichtiger Fokus von solchen Selbst-Erzählungen ist die zukunftsorientierte Formulierung von Identitätsprojekten. Denn Identitätsbildung als dynamisches Geschehen findet nicht bloß situativ statt, sondern wesentlich auch prospektiv.
Auf der Basis dieses theoretischen Modells werden in einer empirischen Studie Identitätsprojekte von jungen Erwachsenen analysiert. Die gefundenen Typen können gelesen werden als Kommentare zur Identitätsentwicklung in einer krisenhaften Spätmoderne.
Der Autor, Dr. Wolfgang Kraus, ist derzeit wissenschaftlicher Angestellter an der Universität München, Sonderforschungsbereich 536, Projekt B2: Individualisierung und posttraditionale Ligaturen - die soziale Figuration der reflexiven Moderne.
