About the Book

English summary: Unique key experiences, such as the experience of love, illness, failure, and of near-death are formative. This is well known. Not well known, however, is that the most basic educational processes happen during pre-linguistic times: during the early childhood phase, in which no elaborate language is available, but also later in life, below the threshold of conscious reflection. Images of ourselves and of the world are created that serve as models for life's practical tasks. The ego in this level is defined by teacher and psychoanalyst Gunther Bittner as the proto-self. In this autobiographical narrative, the reflexive subject satisfied itself of its educational processes. These linguistic messages are valuable information sources that allow for analysis of individual training histories. Even psychoanalytic medical histories can illustrate how a person can constitute himself as the person he's become in the course of his life. German text.
