Fast Food ist in aller Munde - wer hat nicht schon einmal Currywurst, Döner oder den klassischen Hamburger mit Pommes gegessen? Doch wo kommt dieser Trend zum Außer-Haus-Essen eigentlich her, wann entwickelte sich das moderne Konzept von 'Fast Food' und wie war es möglich, dass daraus global agierende Fast-Food-Imperien wie McDonald's und Co. entstehen konnten? Erklärungsversuche möchte die vorliegende Arbeit bieten, die den Weg des 'schnellen Essens' von seinen Anfängen in der Antike bis in die heutige Zeit verfolgt. Hierbei werden die historischen Entwicklungsschritte in den Kontext der größeren sozialgeschichtlichen und ökonomischen Zusammenhänge eingebettet um aufzuzeigen, dass die Entstehung und der Erfolg der modernen Fast-Food-Kultur als logisches Produkt gesamtgeschichtlicher Beschleunigungsprozesse und eines veränderten Konsumverhaltens verstanden werden müssen. Am Beispiel des Fast-Food-Pioniers McDonald's wird im zweiten Teil der Arbeit dargestellt, nach welchen Prinzipien diese moderne Kultur aufgebaut ist und wie das Unternehmen diese in nur einem halben Jahrhundert erfolgreicher Firmengeschichte perfektionieren konnte. Den Abschluss der Arbeit bildet ein kurzer Ausblick auf gegenwärtige Tendenzen zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts.
About the Author: Roman Büttner wurde 1983 in Fulda geboren. Nach dem Abitur 2002 studierte er Englisch, Geschichte und Pädagogik an der Philipps-Universität in Marburg an der Lahn. Dort widmete er sich während des Studiums vor allem der Sozial- und Wirtschaftsgeschichte mit Schwerpunkten im Bereich Ernährungsgeschichte sowie der Darstellung von Geschichte in modernen Medien. Hierzu hat der Autor in der Vergangenheit bereits Vorträge im Rahmen geschichtlicher Symposien an der Universität Turku (Finnland) und der Humboldt-Universität Berlin gehalten und einige Artikel und monografische Abhandlungen, etwa zur Darstellung des Holocaust im Geschichtsfilm, veröffentlicht. Seit dem erfolgreichen Abschluss des ersten und zweiten Staatsexamens 2008 bzw. 2010 unterrichtet er an einem Gymnasium im Raum Stuttgart, wo er sich auch weiterhin mit Alltags- und medial vermittelter Geschichte beschäftigt.
