Die internationalen Kredit- und Kapitalmärkte waren in den letzten Jahren durch starke strukturelle Veränderungen geprägt. Die Verbriefung von Vermögenswerten als alternative Form der Unternehmensfinanzierung hat in großem Maße das Interesse der Marktteilnehmer auf sich gelenkt. Die in jüngster Zeit entstandenen Collateralized Debt Obligations (CDOs) sind strukturierte Finanztransaktionen und bilden eine Unterkategorie der Asset Backed Securities (ABS), d.h. der mit bestimmten Vermögenswerten unterlegten Wertpapieren. Sie verbriefen unterschiedlich priorisierte Ansprüche auf die Vermögenswerte des Referenzportfolios und erzeugen so unterschiedliche Tranchen mit spezifischen Risiko/Ertrags-Profilen. Das Wachstum dieses Marktsegments ist enorm: Betrug das weltweite CDO-Emissionsvolumen 2004 noch 157,4 Mrd. $, waren es bereits im 3. Quartal 2006 rund 322 Mrd. $, d.h. eine Steigerung von 104,6%. Zur Einschätzung des Risikos der CDO-Strukturen werden von den weltweit führenden Ratingagenturen Moody´s Investors Service, Fitch Ratings und Standard and Poor´s Ratings vergeben. Allerdings unterscheiden sich sowohl der Aussagegehalt der Agentur-Ratings als auch deren zugrundeliegende Annahmen und methodische Erstellung fundamental. Marktteilnehmer sind somit einer Fehleinschätzung des tatsächlichen Risikos ausgesetzt. Zusätzlich verlangt die fehlende Markttransparenz und die Abhängigkeit von den Ratingagenturen nach alternativen Modellierungsansätzen zur CDO-Bewertung. Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es, Grundlagen einer CDO-Transaktion und einen Überblick der Marktentwicklung sowie Grundlagen der Ratingerstellung zu vermitteln und die zugrundeliegenden Modelle der Agentur-Ratings sowie theoretische Modelle aus der Literatur und alternative Modellansätze zu erläutern und zu analysieren.
