Zuerst sind sie einander David und Dean. Dann verlieben die Teenager sich und werden Freunde furs Leben. Den Widerstand, den Davids Eltern gegen die schwule Beziehung leisten, wissen die Freunde zu uberwinden. In ihrer Eigenart unterscheiden sich die zwei jungen Manner jedoch stark. David ist bisexuell und hat eine gute Freundin, mit der er sexuell verkehrt. Dean steht ausschließlich auf Manner. David liebt Ordnung, Dean ist eher fahrlassig. Dean studiert Geografie, David wird Volksschullehrer. Sie ziehen zusammen, aber sie stellen schmerzlich fest, dass sie als Wohnpartner nicht zueinander passen. Sie trennen sich raumlich, wollen aber Freunde bleiben. Das geht eine Zeit lang gut. David findet in seinem Arbeitskollegen Cem einen neuen Wohnpartner und einen zweiten Freund. Das Zusammenwohnen gelingt jetzt perfekt. Obwohl Dean das ertragen will, macht es ihn unglucklich. Cem scheint fur David doch oft an erster Stelle zu kommen. Als Dean nach einer Studienzeit in den USA zuruckkommt, holt David ihn nicht vom Flughafen ab, weil Cem Geburtstag hat. Dean geht es immer schlechter. Er glaubt, fur David nur noch eine Nebenrolle zu spielen. Er sucht psychotherapeutische Hilfe. Diese versucht ihn von seiner Abhangigkeit von David zu befreien. Er distanziert sich von David. Mit mehreren Partnern versucht er, eine Wohngemeinschaft zu bilden. Das gelingt nur teilweise. Erst als Cem aus Davids Leben verschwindet, findet er wieder zu David zuruck. Er stellt zudem fest, dass er am liebsten allein wohnt. Die Freizeit und vor allem das Wochenende wird fur ihn Zeit fur David. Der ist sehr glucklich, dass Dean zu ihm zuruckgefunden hat. David lernt eine Frau kennen, Chiara. Sie verstehen sich ausgezeichnet und verlieben sich. David will Dean aber auf keinen Fall nochmals verlieren. Er bringt es fertig, dass Dean sich in seine Verbindung mit Chiara einfugen kann. Dean gehort zur Familie, auch als bald Nachwuchs kommt. Eine außergewohnliche Liebesgeschichte!
