About the Book

The Deadbeats is a satire built around the modern need for 'fifteen minutes' of fame and the desire for likes and follows. It plays with the shallowness of the celebrity lifestyle and the vanity social media peddles to the masses. When a failed celebrity game show competitor begins abducting the rich and famous, the world becomes gripped by their plight. Forcing his captives to compete to the death against each other in ever more depraved bouts of cruelty, the kidnapper not only films and streams their ordeal live, but encourages the public to vote on who competes to the death next. Absent without leave Marine Captain Mitch Calvert is captured by the military whilst performing as a singer during an eighty's night, he is given a choice. Either return to military prison or help form, and lead an elite special forces unit; this was to be no ordinary unit their cover would be that of a touring rock band. During X Factor style auditions Mitch forms the band from the cream of US military and they begin their training. They must gel not only as a fighting unit but also a believable rock band. And so, the Deadbeats are formed, Mitch their leader, singer and lead guitarist is joined by Cowboy a tough hard talking ex-Navy seal and bass guitarist. Their drummer is Holly Lightfoot a female Intelligence Officer, not only fast with her hands but also her mouth. Tony, a double amputee late of the Delta force is the keyboard player and Scott weapons specialist, multiple instrument player and rapper. Although the band was meant to be low level, their fame grows out of control and soon they are the hottest group on the planet. The team have to juggle their celebrity and fame with their secret lives. When American hostages are murdered the team are ordered to find and rescue the remaining captives. Using a European tour as cover the Deadbeats must assault a castle, overcome the guards, rescue the prisoners and get back to Munich in time for their concert.
