Am 01. Dezember des Jahres 1903, zu einer Zeit also, in dem der wilde Westen faktisch noch existent war, lief mit "Der große Eisenbahnraub" der erste Western in den Lichtspielhäusern an. Ab diesem Moment starteten fast wöchentlich neue, zumeist primitive Produktionen im Stile von "Broncho Billy" in den Filmtheatern, die auf aktionsreiche und gewalttätige Konflikte zwischen den Protagonisten abzielten und sich wenig mit psychischen Verhaltensweisen, komplexen Charakteren und Inhalten beschäftigten. Mit lediglich drei Westernproduktionen gelang es John Ford, das Genre prinzipiell zu transformieren. Ist sein Akteur John Wayne anfangs noch ein Heros in optima forma oder patrimonialer Offizier, bleibt am Ende von "Der schwarze Falke" (1956), einem der multidimensionalsten und heterogensten Western, nur ein vergeltungssüchtiger Individualist, der genauso verloren und entwurzelt ist wie die von ihm indigniert gejagten Feinde. Ab jenem Moment war eine simplifizierende Schwarz-weiß-Präsentation der Protagonisten nicht mehr möglich. Aufgrund der Unveränderbarkeit seiner Charakteristiken realisierte der Western immer mehr eine Genese in das Innere, in die Tiefe. Ohne Lokationen, Figuren und Mechanismen der Inhalte zu modifizieren, entstanden der epische, der psychologische Western und letztendlich, Ende der 1960er Jahre nahtlos an das Ende des klassischen Western anknüpfend, der Spät-Western und der Italo-Western, die wesentlich erbarmungsloser, maliziöser aber auch okkasionell rationaler mit ihrem Sujet hantieren. About the Author: Rüdiger "Rudi" Specht wurde am 14.08.1975 in Bottrop, Nordrhein-Westfalen, als Sohn eines Chemiefacharbeiters und einer Hausfrau geboren. Nach dem Abitur absolvierte er zuerst eine Ausbildung zum Industriekaufmann und arbeitete mehrere Jahre in diesem Beruf, bevor er sich zu einem Filmstudium an der Merz Akademie in Stuttgart entschied. Seit Erlangung des akademischen Grads des Master of Arts ist er in den vielfältigsten Positionen für Film und Fernsehen tätig.
