Meet Monica, often known as Mo, who was abandoned by her mother and raised by her older sister, Angie.
She meets and moves in with her boyfriend Derrick at a young age. Derrick appears again five years later. Mo is now a successful businesswoman who has lost interest in the lifestyle she once led.
With Derrick returned, he takes advantage of Mo's frailty to obtain what he wants, pushing her into a situation from which she is unable to escape on her own. Derrick is able to reenter her life and heart because of her love for him.
Mo's mother has a new lease on life now that she is sober and clean, but Mo can't bring herself to forgive her for leaving her so many years ago, and she constantly brings it up. She soon discovers that she knew more about the tragedy than she had originally believed.
