Ronald ist Pachter des „Katholischen Bahnhofs“, einer Kneipe, die er von seinem Vater ubernommen hat. Seine ganze Aufmerksamkeit gilt dem Fußballclub Arminia Bielefeld, seinem Sohn Che-Daniel, dem standigen Streit mit seiner Ex und anhaltenden finanziellen Engpassen. Trotzdem textet er ab und zu seine eigene Hauszeitung ("Die Thekenschlampe"); zur Unterhaltung fur seine Gaste. Der Sohn seines Vermieters, Spross der Fabrikantenfamilie Pretorius, schanzt Ronald den Auftrag fur eine Familien- und Firmensaga zu („Alter, schreib mal was Fettes a la 'Buddenbrooks'!“). So wird der Gastwirt zum Chronisten, der sich mit zunehmender Leidenschaft, mit Interesse und Energie in die Lebens- und Liebesgeschichte des „Jungen Fabrikanten Pretorius“ verbeiß Der Junge Fabrikant ist als Gymnasiast fur alle nur „Werther“, weil er ein unerschopfliches Reservoir an Goethezitaten zu haben scheint. Ein echter Goethe Fan! Und als der sich in Marlene verliebt und man den beiden ihre Liebe nicht len will, beginnt eine so kuriose wie bewegende Liebesgeschichte, die in Deutschland beginnt und sich Jahrzehnte spater in Kanada fangt. Die wunderbaren Figuren im Roman von Irmin Burdekat lieben, werden getrennt, verrennen sich und landen am Ende wieder dort, wo sie losgelaufen sind. So kommt es, d Ronald, der Chronist und Erzahler, von seiner eigenen Geschichte eingeholt wird. Er berichtet, interpretiert und dreht sich eigentlich doch nur um sich selbst. Und ganz plotzlich wird ihm bewusst, d er mitten in seiner eigenen Geschichte Marlene und Werther finden nach einem ganzen Leben am Ende zusammen und beschließen zu heiraten. Und sie laden Ronald, den Wirt vom „Katholischen Bahnhof“, der ihrer beider Leben so liebevoll nachgezeichnet hat, ein, dabei zu sein. Die Strange laufen nun ineinander, die Ereignisse uberschlagen sich noch einmal, das Erzahlkonzept wird aufgelost, da es uber sich selbst hinauswachst und .... was lange wahrt, wird endlich gut.
