Wie in den drei Kapiteln uber Sprichworter, Redensarten und Sagworter gezeigt wird, nimmt Bertolt Brecht mit seinem -Widerspruchsgeist- eine ambivalente Einstellung gegenuber der sprichwortlichen Fertigware ein. Obwohl er hin und wieder unbewusst zu diesen Sprachautomatismen greift, steht er der formelhaften Volkssprache doch eher kritisch gegenuber. Er wendet sich gegen die mechanische Wiederholung vorgepragter Sprachklischees und entlarvt Denkmuster und traditionelle Wertvorstellungen, indem er sprichwortliches Sprachgut verfremdend in Frage stellt. Seine ausgesprochene -Freude an der Dialektik- fuhrt ihn immer wieder dazu, Sprichworter und Redensarten auf den Kopf zu stellen, das heisst sie durch eine Art Umkehrtechnik in einem vollig neuen Licht auftreten zu lassen. So hat Brechts sprichwortliche Sprache wenig zu tun mit Volkstumlichkeit. Indem er traditionsgebundene Sprichworter und Redensarten verfremdet oder sie unverandert in neue Sachverhalte stellt, fuhrt er zum Mitdenken und zu Bewusstwerdungsprozessen. So ubernimmt die sprichwortliche Sprache in Brechts dialektischer Sprach- und Denkweise eine ungemein wichtige Schlusselfunktion."
About the Author: Der Autor: Wolfgang Mieder (1944) ist Professor fur Germanistik und Volkskunde an der University of Vermont (USA) und hat sich vor allem um die Sprichworterforschung verdient gemacht. Zu seinen zahlreichen Buchveroffentlichungen gehoren u.a. "International Proverb Scholarship," 3 Bde. (1982/93), "Sprichwort-Wahrwort ? Studien zur Geschichte, Bedeutung und Funktion deutscher Sprichworter" (1992), "Sprichwortliches und Geflugeltes: Sprachstudien von Martin Luther bis Karl Marx" (1995), "Deutsche Redensarten, Sprichworter und Zitate: Studien zu ihrer Herkunft, Uberlieferung und Verwendung" (1995), "The Politics of Proverbs: From Traditional Wisdom to Proverbial Stereotypes" (1997), "-Morgenstunde hat Gold im Munde-: Studien und Belege zum popularsten deutschsprachigen Sprichwort" (1997) und "Verdrehte Sprichworter: Antisprichworter aus Literatur und Medien" (1998). Er ist auch Herausgeber des internationalen Jahrbuchs "Proverbium" (1984ff.)."
