Jahrhunderts lebte, die scholastische Philosophie durch den kartesianischen Rationalismus, der seinen Namen gemäß der latinisierten Form des Namens Descartes', Renatus Cartesius, angenommen hat, auf eine neue Ebene geholt, und den Weg zur modernen Philosophie eingeschlagen. Die Bedeutung von Descartes Position innerhalb der Philosophiegeschichte besteht darin, dass sie den im Schatten der scholastischen Philosophie stehenden Verstand in die Mitte seiner Philosophie gestellt hat. Die Fragestellung, inwiefern das aus dem Glauben heraus gesicherte Wissen, dass Gott existiert, sich in einem solchen System positionieren und behaupten kann, indem der Vernunft mehr Kraft und Initiative zugesprochen wird als je zuvor, war einer der wesentlichen Aspekte seiner im Jahr 1641 veröffentlichte Werk "Meditationes de prima philosophia". Das Ziel der vorliegenden Untersuchung, die in drei Hauptanschnitten unterteilt ist, ist es, die Standpunkte der Gottesbeweise, die Descartes in der dritten und fünften Meditation formuliert hat, herauszuarbeiten und ihre Argumentationsstruktur systematisch zu erarbeiten. Im ersten Teil wird erläutert, was man im logischen Sinne unter einem Beweis verstehen soll und inwiefern Gott bzw. die Existenz Gottes in Bezug darauf zu beweisen ist. Warum die bewiesene Gottesexistenz Descartes Ansicht nach wichtig und untersuchungswürdig war, welche notwendigen epistemischen Voraussetzungen, die in der ersten und zweiten Meditation erfüllt wurden, zum Tragen kommen, wird im zweiten Teil verdeutlicht. Schließlich lässt sich Descartes ideentheoretischer Gottesbeweis, der in der dritten Meditation vorkommt, und der von ihm in der fünften Meditation betrachtete ontologische Gottesbeweis mit den dagegen formulierten Ei
