Der neu gegrundete Das vergessene Buch - Verlag mit Sitz in Wien hat es sich zum Ziel gesetzt, zu Unrecht vergessene Preziosen der deutschsprachigen Literatur einem neugierigen und aufgeschlossenen Lesepublikum neu zuganglich zu machen. Mit der Neupublikation von "Die Vergiftung", dem lange vergessenen Debutroman der osterreichisch-judischen Autorin Maria Lazar, wurde nun der Grundstein gelegt fur eine auf mehrere Bande angelegte Reihe: Maria Lazar (1895-1948) entstammte einer judisch-großburgerlichen Wiener Familie. Sie absolvierte das beruhmte Madchengymnasium der Eugenia Schwarzwald, in deren Salon Oskar Kokoschka sie 1916 portatierte und in dem sie mit zahlreichen prominenten Figuren der damaligen Wiener Kulturszene zusammentraf, darunter Adolf Loos, Hermann Broch und Egon Friedell. 1920 lieferte sie mit ihrem fulminanten Debutroman „Die Vergiftung“ einen der uberzeugendsten weiblichen Beitrage zum literarischen Expressionismus: Eine gnadenlose Abrechnung mit der burgerlichen Lebenswelt vor 1914. Ein Roman uber die zerstorerische Macht der Liebe und den unbandigen Drang einer jungen Frau nach personlicher Freiheit. Michael Rohrwasser urteilt uber die Neuauflage des Romans in der "Wiener Zeitung" vom 21./22. Februar 2015: "Und dann das: Da wird ein Roman von 1920 wiederaufgelegt, in einem Verlag mit dem schonen, aber gefahrlichen Namen "das vergessene buch", von einer Autorin, deren Namen so unbekannt wie nur moglich ist. Eine so eigenwillige und eine so starke Sprache hat man lange nicht mehr vernommen, und wie hier erzahlt wird, das verrat Souveranitat, Gestaltungsvermogen und auch literarisches Selbstbewusstsein - dreizehn Kapitel, die eigentlich kleine Erzahlungen sind, die sich im Laufe der Lekture allmahlich zu einem Ganzen zusammenschließen. Man vergisst bei dieser eindringlichen Bilderfolge schnell alle Versuche einer literaturhistorischen Einordnung ("Expressionismus" oder "Impressionismus"), aber wenn man die Nachbarschaften dieses außergewohnlichen kleinen Romans benennen will, dann sind das große Namen wie Ernst Weiss, Hermann Ungar oder Veza Canetti - kurz: es handelt sich um eine kleine Sensation." Prof. Dr. Johann Sonnleitner von der Universitat Wien, ein anerkannter Experte auf dem Gebiet der Osterreichischen Literatur zwischen den Weltkriegen, hat ein umfangreiches und literarhistorisch fundiertes Nachwort dazu beigesteuert.
