Mit dem Herbst kam auch der Tod in das liebliche kleine Tal mit den drei Fischteichen. In der südoststeirischen Gemeinde Mühldorf, liegt das Tal in einem abgelegenen Talkessel. Nur wenige Häuser stehen am Petersdorfberg rund um dieses friedliche Kleinod. Der Hof des Fischerehepaares Eva und Sepp Barsch steht unten in der Talsohle direkt am See. Die anderen Einwohner wohnen auf der Anhöhe. Unter anderem der Schweinezüchter Potzner, der mit seiner Frau und den Söhnen den Hof bewirtschaftet. Potzner ist das große Problem in der Gemeinde Mühldorf und wohl auch der Grund für die Magengeschwüre des Bürgermeisters. Die Potzners wollen eine riesige Schweinemasthalle errichten und der Bürgermeister sieht massive Proteste von den Gemeindebewohnern auf sich zukommen. Hans Potzner hat einflussreiche Freunde und terrorisiert seine Nachbarn. Wegen Grenzstreitigkeiten läuft ein Prozess Potzner gegen den Nebenerwerbsbauern Wilfried Kreiner. Ferdinand, ehemaliger Briefträger in der Region, ist seit seiner vorzeitigen Pensionierung einsam und gelangweilt, durchstreift mit seinem Motorrad die Umgebung und findet bei einer Motorradtour in seinem ehemaligen Postrevier einen Toten auf einer Bank. War der ungewöhnliche Tod ein Unfall, oder Mord? Die Polizei behandelt den Fall zunächst als Unfall und macht gravierende Fehler. Ferdinand glaubt nicht an einen Unfall und findet bei seinen privaten Recherchen Anhaltspunkte, die den Toten in einem ganz anderen Licht erscheinen lassen. Weitere tragische Ereignisse rund um die Familien des kleinen Tales bestärken Ferdinands Verdacht. Der ganze Ort ist verdächtig. Als auch Ferdinand Morddrohungen erhält, spitzt sich die Angelegenheit gefährlich zu. Nach langer Zeit seines Singledaseins sucht er nach Zweisamkeit. Die Hoffnung mit der Kripobeamtin Liane ein Verhältnis anzufangen geht leider gründlich daneben. Weitere Ereignisse schockieren die kleine Gemeinde und verändert die Ansicht der Polizei. Ferdinand sucht intensiv nach der Wahrheit und deckt nach und nach eine Tragödie auf. Die Wahrheit bringt den Tod in dieses liebliche Fleckchen der Südoststeiermark...
