Rekenonderwijs afstemmen op verschillen tussen leerlingen. Hoe pak je dat aan? Iedere leerkracht heeft te maken met verschillen tussen leerlingen in de klas. Dit geldt ook voor het rekenonderwijs en begint al bij het voorbereidend rekenen. Sommige leerlingen hebben behoefte aan extra instructietijd, terwijl anderen behoefte hebben aan uitdaging met moeilijker rekenopgaven. Het is voor leerkrachten dan ook een grote uitdaging om de rekenles zo vorm te geven dat alle leerlingen voldoende profiteren van de inhoud. Differentiëren in het rekenonderwijs beschrijft een stapsgewijze aanpak om differentiatie in het rekenonderwijs aan te brengen en te verbeteren. Daarbij wordt antwoord gegeven op de volgende vragen: Hoe breng je in kaart wat de onderwijsbehoeften van leerlingen in de klas zijn? En hoe vertaal je dit naar gedifferentieerde leerdoelen? Hoe stem je de rekeninstructie hierop af? Welke verwerkingsopdrachten geef je leerlingen? Hoe kun je evalueren of de gekozen aanpak gewerkt heeft? Hoe organiseer je dit, in de klas, maar ook schoolbreed? Elke stap in de aanpak van differentiatie is voorzien van voorbeelden en stappenplannen die handvatten geven voor toepassing in de rekenles van morgen. In het laatste hoofdstuk worden resultaten van een onderzoek naar de effecten van differentiatie beschreven. Differentiëren in het rekenonderwijs is geschreven voor schoolleiders, intern begeleiders, rekencoördinatoren en (opleiders van) leerkrachten in het primair onderwijs. Eva van de Weijer-Bergsma, Hans van Luit, Emilie Prast en Evelyn Kroesbergen zijn werkzaam aan de afdeling Educatie & Pedagogiek van de Universiteit Utrecht. Jarise Kaskens (Hogeschool Windesheim), Carla Compagnie-Rietberg (Marnix Onderwijscentrum), Ina Cijvat (Expertis) en Henk Logtenberg (CPS Onderwijsontwikkeling en advies) geven in hun dagelijks werk onder andere begeleiding en scholing aan schoolteams en leerkrachten (in opleiding).
