About the Book

Synopsis Donna 632John Buchanan believed Partners were mere mindless drones grown for the rich and used to take away jobs from humans. He like most believed they had no sole and were and mere appliances like a car or toaster. Filling out a job application without its instructions would change his mind about Partners and take his life into a direction he hadn't imagined.John filled out an application for a new company involved in moving people to Mars. Not knowing he only needed to fill out part of the application, he completed parts intended for scientists and engineers. He hoped to get hired as a mechanic or factory worker, but Donna632 saw promise in the inventions he included. She was a Partner her father had grown with some modifications and assigned her to startup a new division of the company he ran.Falling in love wasn't planned and it was tested when he found out she was a Partner. He realized he had been wrong and accepted her and his new job as a turn in his luck. Shortly after developing his invention they are involved in a plane crash. While searching for water for the survivors, they are caught in a forest fire and she is horribly burned. Stranded he has his hands full trying to keep her alive, only to have two little girls left with them. His mechanical skills come in handy when he gets a distress beacon working. To save her, she must undergo a new regrow procedure. The process is not approved, so her father arranges it to take place on a trip to Mars. It all looks good when she is restored, until they reach Mars. The manager of the company farm has been embezzling and mistreating the company's Partners. After John fired the manager he wants revenge and teams up with little girl's father. Kidnapping charges force John to return to earth and he fears losing both girls.Bernie Falk's revenge includes having John shot. He also seeks to hive him convicted of stealing the little Partner named Jane, or kidnapping Hope. Winning title for Jane they return to the crash site for a break. Donna believed it would help John relax while waiting for his trial. Finding forty abandoned Partners wasn't what she planned and it didn't help his stress. Their control signals didn't reach the area where they found them and they told John they would rather die than return to their owner. He didn't like owning partners and already had a title for little Jane, but he rescued them all and got titles under abandoned property. All appears settled when John is awarded custody of Hope, when one of the Partners is recognized by his wife. Discovering most of the rescued Partners are actually humans implanted with mind control upsets their plan to lead a simple life. When Donna becomes pregnant, he thought he could keep it quiet. Getting implants removed looked like the end of his stress, but the one named Jack is shot while speaking about his abduction. Forced to speak to a crowd in Chicago they tell about Jack and people are enraged. People with missing family members begin a revolt and it spreads across the country. When the president commits suicide and government is restored all looks settled.Arriving back in Pittsburgh, the girls' abusive father and the fired plant manager kidnap both girls. Jane is a creative little Partner and finds a way to escape. Both Jocko and Bernie are captured and the girls found, so finally they are free to settle down. There is still reluctance to recognize Partners as real humans. When Donna goes into labor, doctors refuse to deliver her baby; saying they haven't been trained for Partners. Their son is born at the factory and they are legally allowed to marry. They only wanted a simple wedding, but were invited to the white house to be married. Her father ends the story telling her mother they raised a wonderful daughter.
