Wo dialogischer Text nicht mehr Grundlage eines narrativen Theaterstücks ist, weicht der Inszenierungsprozess einem Prozess der Stückfindung, an dessen Anfang Ideen für den szenischen Umgang mit Objekten stehen: Aus visuellen Eindrücken, bildkünstlerischen Prozessen, psychologischen Beobachtungen, gesellschaftskritischen Impulsen, intellektuellen Spielen, aufgeschnappten Handlungsminiaturen oder sonst woher tauchen sie auf. Ein solcher erster Impuls, von dem der Dramaturg vermutet, dass er das Potential für eine Dramatisierung enthält, muss im Stückfindungsprozess durch Assoziationen erweitert, in bildkünstlerischen Ausdruck transformiert, in szenisches Handeln umgesetzt und ästhetisch verdichtet werden, um letztendlich in einen stimmigen Ablauf eingeschrieben werden zu können. Dabei ist die Verwendung von Sprache keine conditio sine qua non mehr. Wo Sprache aber verwendet wird, kann sie dialogischer Natur, Lyrik oder Prosa sein. Sie kann selbst ganz reduziert werden auf bedeutungslosen präverbalen Ausdruck, wie Stöhnen und Stammeln, oder sich im semantischen Irrgarten des Nonsens bewegen. Ein derartiger Prozess der Stückfindung birgt durch den Verzicht auf logisch-lineare Handlung grundsätzlich die Gefahr, dass er ins Beliebige verläuft, belanglos wird und die Lust des Zuschauers nicht wach zu halten vermag.
