Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2009 im Fachbereich Orientalistik / Sinologie - Chinesisch / China, Note: 1,3, Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (Historisches Seminar), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der Drei-Schluchten-Staudamm (Sanxia Daba 三峡大坝 ) in China, die größte Talsperre der Welt, wurde schon lange vor Baubeginn 1994 weltweit kontrovers diskutiert. Die Diskurse unter Wissenschaftlern über den eigentlichen Nutzen und die unvorhersehbaren ökologischen Auswirkungen, die mit dem Projekt einhergehen könnten, begleiteten den gesamten Bau bis zur endgültigen Fertigstellung 2009 und dauern gegenwärtig noch an. Entgegen sämtlichen Warnungen vor einem "ökologischen Desaster" hat die chinesische Regierung ihren "Megadamm" errichtet. Nun, nach Fertigstellung, scheinen die ersten Folgen sichtbar zu werden. Als im November der Wasserlevel des Stausees die endgültige Marke von 175 m erreicht hatte und somit das Projekt offiziell als erfolgreich abgeschlossen galt, wurden erneut kritische Stimmen laut: Die Stauung verschlimmere die ohnehin im Jangtse-Delta bestehende Dürre drastisch. Die Blockierung des natürlichen Flusslaufs zerstöre wichtige Ökosysteme und bewirke damit das Aussterben vieler Fisch- und Tierarten. Sogar die hiesige "Badische Zeitung" (BZ) bemerkte Anfang März (05.03.2010) zu der fleißigen "Bibertätigkeit" Chinas: "Dem Mekong geht das Wasser aus." Und das, so vermutet die seit 20 Jahren bestehende Gruppe "International Rivers", sei auf die unzähligen Staudämme in China zurückzuführen. Denn auch im Reich der Mitte ist der Mekong teilweise ausgetrocknet. Immerhin befinden sich in China zehn Staudämme in Planung oder sind bereits fertig gestellt. Dies, so wird vermutet, ist Ursache für das sukzessive Versiegen des Wassers. Angeblich wird der Mekong - an entscheidender Stelle in China - am Oberlauf aufgestaut und deshalb gelangt immer weniger Wasser bis nach Thailand und Vietnam.
