About the Book

The book 'The Driving Instructor Business' presented by 'It's a Drivers World' has been prepared primarily for the benefit of those people who are considering becoming a driving instructor and who have no experience of either that or indeed running a small business. However, it will be of great value to those trainee instructors who want to know more about the business they are getting into and who are not getting this guidance from their current trainers Indeed newly qualified instructors will find it of great benefit in helping them through the initial first twelve months or so especially if they have been abandoned to their fate by their trainers now that they have qualified. In keeping with one of the most well known maxims in the driving instructor business, "keep it short and simple", it deals with all the essential facets of being a driving instructor without being too wordy or too heavy a read. In other words don't overload the pupil with too much information which is irrelevant and which will probably be forgotten - get to the point in simple terms which will be readily understood and absorbed. This book sets out to do exactly that and covers such subjects as those listed inside. They are listed in no particular order and cover not just the actual business side of being a driving instructor, but include also background material on how to become one and the sort of knowledge and information you would be expected to acquire and pass on to your pupils.
About the Author: JIM DUGGAN spent almost a quarter of his working life in the driver training business both as a first class driving instructor and latterly involved in the training of instructors. He started off initially as a franchised instructor with a medium sized driving school, but within a year graduated to owning his own school. After a further couple of years and having gained more experience in the business he moved into what he felt was the even more interesting business of training driving instructors. He recalled his own experience of the training he received as being less than informative in this respect. He later concluded that the reason was because the training establishment he attended wanted to sign the trainees up to some kind of franchise deal. Most trainees were coming from industry based backgrounds and this would be their first venture into actually being responsible for their own future and running a business, albeit on a small scale. Training was frequently interrupted with asides which tried to deal with their underlying concerns and Jim realised that doing so in such a piecemeal fashion was not really in keeping with the professional approach he was trying to develop He decided to keep a file detailing all the various concerns of the trainees and proceeded to develop comprehensive written answers to all their queries. Over a period of time this file grew to be more than just a few written handouts. The usefulness and benefits of the notes were fairly well appreciated, but he wanted to make the information they contained available to a wider audience and, in the interests of reassuring all who had ambitions to become a driving instructor, pass on his knowledge and experience to as many potential trainees as possible. By now the internet was becoming established as the most prolific source of information the world has ever known and so with the help of a rather talented good friend he created a website to do just that. The result was www.driversworld.co.uk which went on-line in 2006. However, due to the amount of hours required to administer such a website it has now been closed and replaced by www.itsadriversworld.com offering digital versions of his various publications regarding driver training. However, there are still many who would in fact prefer to work from a traditional book so here it is - 'THE DRIVING INSTRUCTOR BUSINESS'.
