About the Book

English summary: The present volume rejects the idea that individualism emerged in the West, as opposed to collectivism everywhere else. Highlighting literary and cultural traditions from China, the Middle East, and Africa, the authors question the divide between the West and the rest of the world, placing recent debates on the individualization of our societies in a new and broader context.
