About the Book

"I never shoulda stolen the dead man's coat." Hunkered down inside a boxcar, racing across the frozen prairie toward Winnipeg in January 1931, that is exactly what Jake Harrow does to save his own life. Inside the pocket of the coat, he finds a woman's cry for help, a note from the dead man's wife pleading with him to return home and save her from a man who wants more than she is willing to give to pay their debts. But Jake has enough trouble of his own. Driven out of his home by the man he worked for and wading through the hell left by his pa, the last thing he needs is to take on another person's struggle. The letter haunts Jake until his footsteps lead him to Leader, Saskatchewan and the doorstep of Angie Wallace. His only intention is to tell Angie about her husband's death, but he quickly finds himself pulled into the townspeople's troubles where he is forced to weave a web of lies to gain their acceptance. Will Jake find the home he longs for? Or will he be destroyed by the devils within and without? Dust and Devils is the first book in the Dust and Devils series set in Canada in the 1930s, following Jake Harrow.
About the Author: Rhonda Leanne Stock was born in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan and spent her childhood growing up in the tiny hamlet of Congress. Many years in a small town without a TV gave her a love of books and a vivid imagination. She has been filling notebooks with stories for as long as she can remember. Not convinced that she could make a living as a writer, Rhonda obtained her bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Saskatchewan, and works in a day-job as an engineer. Rhonda divides her time away from the day-job between her writing and her animals, including horses, donkeys, goats, cats and a dog. Her fascination with the 1930s began when she was researching her family history, and reading her grandpa's stories about growing up in the prairie Dust Bowl. She credits her love of Canadian history to the discovery of Pierre Berton's history books while she was in University, and loves researching almost as much as writing. She now lives on and operates a ranch near Estevan, Saskatchewan with her sister, Laura. Dust and Devils is Rhonda's first novel.
