Dyer County was created in 1823 from Indians lands in the extreme western portion of the state. It is surrounded by Gibson, Haywood, Obion, and Tipton counties, TN and the Mississippi River on its western boundary. This book includes all the Cemeteries of Dyer County, except for the cemeteries in the city of Dyersburg. The later was to be worked on by the author but has never come to publication. Some of the birth dates recorded on a sampling of the tombstones give year of birth of some persons as early as 1760, 1786, 1789, 1795, etc.... The cemeteries included in this volume are: Atkins, Center, Church Grove, Clark, Cobb, Fairview, Fisher, Fowlker, Gauldin, JIcks, Hurricane, Hill, Jones, Meacham, McCorkle, McCulloch, Mt. Carmel, Mt. Pisgah, Murray, Neely, Newborn Grove (negro), Oak Grove, Parker, Pettus, Pierce, Pleasant Hill, Popular Grove, Porter, Rehobeth, ReEllen, and Shaw.
