Auch wenn Erwachsene von dem Störungsbild betroffen sein können, liegt der Fokus dieser Ausführungen auf der Arbeit mit Kindern - konkret im Grundschulalter. Besonderes Augenmerk soll auf der gezielten Förderung im Kontext einer Nachmittagsbetreuung liegen. Die Fragen, wie und wie weit in jenem Rahmen tatsächlich wirksame Unterstützung gegeben werden kann, sollen geklärt werden. Insbesondere mit einbezogen wird außerdem, inwiefern die Motivation und vor allem die Ressource der Selbstwirksamkeitserfahrung der Kinder dabei eine Rolle spielt und ebenso gezielt gefördert werden kann. Es soll thematisiert werden, inwiefern Förderung stattfinden kann, wenn Pädagogen in dem Wissen sind, dass eine Dyskalkulie vorliegt. So folgt nach anfänglichen theoretischen Grundlagen ein Überblick zu Grundprinzipien der Förderarbeit. Konkrete Methoden zum Lernen mit rechenschwachen Kindern schließen daran an. Komplexe Förderprogramme, welche für den Rahmen der Nachmittagsbetreuung zu umfangreich sind, werden kurz eingeordnet. Daran anschließend werden Inhalte zur Selbstwirksamkeitserwartung ausgeführt sowie prägnant die Zusammenarbeit mit Eltern und Lehrern erläutert. Dyskalkulie gewinnt in der Praxis der Erziehungs- und Bildungsberatung immer mehr an Bedeutung. Auch wegen der zunehmenden Bekanntheit des Störungsbildes Dyskalkulie sind immer mehr Pädagogen, Psychologen und auch Eltern mit der Thematik konfrontiert.
