Aprender cosas interesantes y curiosas de una civilización tan importante como la romana, mientras te partes el culo de la risa por las hilarantes y divertidas peripecias que sufren los protagonistas, no es mal objetivo para una novela de humor. Bien, pues ese y ningún otro es el propósito de E M É R I T U S (I y II) ¡Ahí va una de romanos!. Dicho esto desglosemos a grosso modo su sinópsis: Augusta Emérita (Mérida actual, Extremadura, España); año 25 d.C.; onceavo año del reinado del emperador Tiberio Claudio Nerón (enseguida se autoproclamó con el de Tiberio Julio César). La emergente colonia augústea de la provincia Lusitania, a solo cincuenta años de su fundación ordenada por el primer emperador Octavio Augusto, y a unos treinta y cinco desde que consiguiera el estatuto de capitalidad de la tercera provincia hispánica (la Lusitania), bulle de manera armoniosa de progreso y dinamismo. Tan es así, que los dioses del Olimpo subyugados por la belleza y armonia de la nueva ciudad, no dudan, transfigurados en seres humanos, en visitarla para sus juergas y despendoles y se aparecen por Augusta Emérita más que por la propia Roma, si bien en algunas ocasiones (todas) salen escaldados de las surrealistas situaciones donde se meten sin ser llamados ni invitados. Al mismo tiempo es, en esta emergente y bella ciudad de la Lusitania hispano-romana, donde nace y vive nuestro "heroíno" Julio Cayo Eméritus, un buen tipo que arrastra varios traumas infantiles que determinan su deambular por la vida y los muchos líos en los que de continuo se mete, a cual más hilarante y divertido. Por sus partes... ¡perdón!, por su parte, un divertido y cachondo padre Júpiter, cual marujo tertuliano, nos informará en distintos y descojonantes capítulos alternos con los de nuestro "prota" Eméritus, sobre la vida y andanzas de los 12 inquilinos olímpicos. Un despeloche total. Ya verán. Por su lado nuestro "protagonisto" (hijo de un ex legionario fundador de la colonia), luego de salvar la pelleja tras ser condenado a muerte por un delito no cometido, tratará de enderezar su vida metiéndose a "actor inanimado" debutando en el "Marco Incomparable" de la "scaena" del Gran Teatro de la colonia augústea. Luego de salir bastante "atomatado" y "hortalizado" de tal situación, se verá obligado, para pagar una deuda de juego, a saltar a la arena del Circo Máximo emeritense de una manera un tanto "sui géneris", y donde está a punto de perder la vida por segunda y tercera vez en pocos meses. En fin, que para saber qué le pasa a nuestro "romanito emérito" y recibir una hilarante y churrigueresca "clase magistral del padre Júpiter sobre su atípica y olímpica familia, se verán obligados a leer estos dos divertidos "tochos". Libros que habrán de leerse sí o sí, primero la primera parte y a continuación la segunda para no perder la cronología y continuidad del relato. Así pues, extrapolando a nuestro contexto la famosa frase gladiadora, gritemos: ¡¡¡AVE CÉSAR, LOS QUE VAN A REÍR TE SALUDAN!!!.
