About the Book

Mexico has not had a history of being upon the international stage in the theater of foreign wars; rather had been focused solely upon the concerns within its borders. That would change in 1942, however, when Mexican President Camacho asked his government for a declaration of war, and was granted, against Nazi Germany for their submarine attacks on Mexican shipping in the Gulf of Mexico. But, it proved a toothless document with no bite. In the mind of the Mexican people, perhaps most, the thought had been that the raging Second World War was the fight of others, not theirs. But, the Axis Powers of Hitler's Nazi Germany, Empirical Japan, and an accomplice, Franco's Fascist Spain, viewed Mexico as ripe geography to plague the United States from. Mexico had been a country of political, ecclesiastical, social unrest and those belligerent powers of conquest sought to foment it further within the country, and if they caused enough mischief they believed that would detract the United States from becoming involved in Europe and the far Western Pacific in war efforts against them. Eagles of a Different Feather is a fictional story with imagined characters and scenarios interacting with factual persons in historical times. It is a story of an ambivalent ally that required soul-searching in the shadow of world events, seeking to know its place and part in the war against totalitarianism, in putting an end to the enslavement of the free world. There was an interim between that debatable declaration of Camacho and the Mexican government, a time for the country to discover its resolve, and when had thus joined the forces of General Douglas MacArthur in the fight to retake the Philippines from Japanese conquest and occupation. For Mexicans the Battle of Luzon and beyond proved their combat mettle and worth to the praise of General MacArthur, and of course to the beaming pride of President Camacho and the Mexican people.
