Allgemein wird darunter die Unterstützung von Handelsaktivitäten über sogenannte Kommunikationsnetzwerke verstanden . Der stationäre Einzelhandel weist seit Jahren eine Stagnation auf. Der Online-Handel hingegen wächst so schnell wie nie zuvor . Einen E-Handel zu betreiben ist inzwischen unabdingbar. Dieser hat nämlich Wachstumschancen, die der stationäre Handel nicht mehr hat. Auch veränderte Kundenwünsche machen einen Online-Handel notwendig. Ebenso trägt die Wettbewerbsaktivität maßgeblich zur Notwendigkeit eines elektronischen Handels bei . Die am meisten verbreiteten Betriebstypen von Distanzkanälen sind der Katalog- und Internet-Versandhandel. Beide Arten gehören zum B2C Distanzhandel. Der zentrale Unterschied zwischen E-Commerce und stationärem Handel ist der persönliche Kontakt, welcher nur im stationären Handel gegeben ist. Die Basis dieser Studie bildet Sekundärliteratur, welche zahlreich vorhanden ist. Dennoch stellte dieses ein Problem dar, da es von vielen Büchern keine erneuerten und überarbeiteten Auflagen gibt. Bei einem sich so schnell entwickelnden Fachbereich wie dem Internethandel, ist Fachliteratur welche bereits 5 bis 10 Jahre alt ist wenig hilfreich. 1.1 Leitende Fragestellung Durch die rasante Entwicklung der Technologie sowie der zunehmenden Internationalisierung haben sich die Kundenwünsche stark verändert. Die Entwicklung und der Erfolg von Smartphones sowie Tablett PCs verdeutlicht, dass der Trend, so viel wie möglich elektronisch zu erleben und zu konsumieren fortlaufen wird.
