About the Book

First-time author Tony DeSisto delivers the entertaining tale of Economics Island, a fictional isle inhabited by various characters used to help illustrate basic economic principles. Along the way, DeSisto depicts the society's evolution from a simple barter economy to a more complex, currency-based economy trading with international partners. The island's economy challenges the conventional wisdom behind many traditional economic indicators, including the stock market, unemployment rate, gross domestic product and the housing market. DeSisto also introduces the idea of the perfect society, a place where goods and services are unlimited, to explain why there are only three real methods of growing the economy: increased productivity, increased efficiency, and increased trade surplus. Economics Island is an insightful, easy-to-read guide to economic principles and theory that is perfect for the burgeoning academic and curious amateur alike.
About the Author: Tony DeSisto is an entrepreneur and attorney, passionately working to build a better Tampa. Tony currently serves as CEO of Citizinvestor - the world's largest crowdfunding platform for government projects with more than 185 city partners. Tony co-founded the company in 2012, while serving on the City of Tampa's Citizen Budget Advisory Committee, where he currently serves as Vice-Chairman. It was on this committee that Tony saw the need to create a new form of civic engagement, where citizens could work together with City Hall to propose, prioritize, and fund projects to improve their community. Tony is an active member of Tampa's startup community, investing in and advising some of the area's fastest growing companies. Passionate about investing in his community, Tony has served on numerous boards and committees for state and local government. Tony also leads his own law firm which specializes in municipal law. Tony received his JD from Stetson Law School and his Bachelors in Economics from Bates College. Most importantly, Tony is a husband to Courtney and father to Trajan, Nali, Teddy, and Titus.
