About the Book

En ocasiones, la actividad de investigación llama a contemplar formas alternativas para enfocar y representar los hechos estudiados. Además de constituir un ejercicio intelectualmente estimulante, el diálogo interdisciplinario puede generar resultados relevantes si se evitan traslaciones mecánicas y se respetan las especificidades de cada campo. Este libro, surgido de los textos para un curso de posgrado en Economía en la Universidad de San Andrés, discute modos de análisis de temas sociales desde la perspectiva de los sistemas complejos, al tiempo que investiga puntos de contacto entre disciplinas sociales y naturales -en especial, entre economía y física. Los modelos aquí estudiados pueden verse como especies de laboratorios de sistemas sociales artificiales, donde -un poco al modo de las animaciones visuales de juegos de rol- se observan mediante simulaciones computacionales las dinámicas resultantes de la interacción de conductas individuales, a su vez tratadas como algoritmos. En el libro se enfatiza el uso activo de conceptos y herramientas, a partir de la experiencia acumulada en el desarrollo de modelos sobre temas específicos del campo socio-económico y en la enseñanza en la materia. El trabajo está concebido como una invitación a nuevas exploraciones.
About the Author: Daniel Heymann es licenciado en Economía y en Ciencias Físicas por la Universidad de Buenos Aires, y Ph. D. en Economía por la Universidad de California. Profesor de Economía en la Universidad de San Andrés y la Universidad de Buenos Aires. Dirige el IIEP- BAIRES (Instituto Interdisciplinario de Economía Política de Buenos Aires) de UBA-CONICET. Miembro de la Academia Nacional de Ciencias Económicas de Argentina. Sus áreas de investigación son la macroeconomía, el desarrollo económico y los modelos de sistemas complejos en Economía. Roberto Perazzo es licenciado y doctor en Física por la Universidad de Buenos Aires. Fue investigador en física nuclear teórica en el Departamento de Física de la CNEA y docente en la Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales de la UBA y en la School of Physics and Astronomy de la Universidad de Minnesota. Actualmente es académico titular de la Academia Nacional de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales. Ha publicado un centenar de artículos en revistas internacionales en temas de física nuclear, biología teórica, sistemas estocásticos y econofísica. Publicó el libro De cerebros, mentes y máquinas (Fondo de Cultura Económica) y Azar, Ciencia y Sociedad en colaboración con P. Jacovkis (Eudeba). Sus investigaciones más reciente se han orientado hacia el estudio de sistemas complejos y el modelado computacional de sistemas económicos. Martín Zimmermann es licenciado en Física por la Universidad de Buenos Aires (1993) y Ph.D. en Física por Uppsala Universitet, Suecia (1997). Es profesor invitado en la Universidad de San Andrés. Fue International Fellow en el Santa Fe Institute entre 2002 y 2004, docente de la Universidad de Buenos Aires y miembro de la Carrera de Investigador del CONICET hasta el 2006. Publicó varios artículos en revistas internacionales sobre teoría juegos, redes complejas, teoría de caos y sistemas dinámicos.
