About the Book

This work is an attempt to highlight the idea that, Egyptomania as universal phenomenon can still be approached and handled with people who have links to Pharaonic traditions and familiarity with the Egyptian land itself. This is also an attempt to support the idea that Memorial Egyptian architecture with its characteristic features has the Potential to be a vital source suitable for the field of fashion printed design. Here, elements of the effects of ancient Egyptian art on the Egyptomania phenomenon will be examined. Furthermore, the impact of Egyptomania on clothing design will be evaluated through examination of the new trends in fashion. Using elements from ancient Egyptian art, some inspired clothing designs will be given as a sample.Architects were the first to copy ancient models, even going so far as to make use of originals that had been transported to new sites. Three-dimensional form and space are the basis of architecture and so are the most designed objects in art. In evaluating a designed object different perspectives should be considered. Three-dimensional designs as architecture, sculpture, and fashion occupy a space that affects the overall form of the design. In this research we will translate a two-dimensional material (cloth) into a three-dimensional form (body - shaped garment) to produce unique and innovative designs that will present new challenges, new obstacles, and new human dynamics. Also printing designs inspired by architectural units will add varieties to the dress design. Accordingly, Egyptomania is presented here; also, as it is manifested in the context of architecture as well which in its own merit can inspire new forms of textile printing and fashion design. As a demonstration of the cultural and sociopolitical impact of Egyptian Revival the Egyptian Revolution of January 25, 2011 is used as a model. Protesters evoke Egyptian folk art symbols to express the tenants of a revolution. Focusing on symbols used in revolution; such as writing on walls, drawing on walls, rural scarf, rural earring, copper ring, Arabic writings, and National symbols new printing and clothing designs can be inspired from the revolution phenomenon and reflect Egyptian loyalty to folk art. The elements of printing and clothing in designs will be used to develop new trends in fashion and emphasis on Egyptian identity.Furthermore, the inspiration from ancient Egyptian is reflected in creation of antibacterial printing of children's clothes as a functional design. Printing clothes' designs are drawn using ancient Egyptian elements imagery of fiction, humor and ridicule related to children's drawing like cat, geese, mouse, owl, lion, gazelle, girl and boy as a decorative design. The structural design for fashion is inspired from ancient Egyptian costume properties, for example, v-shape neck, shawl, raglan sleeve, short sleeve, and a robe to produce new four designs for children suitable to 6-12 years.
