Wegen eines Fehltritts hat Gott ihn bestraft. So erklart sich Adolf Wolfli seinen unglucklichen Fall in den Wahnsinn. Von 1895 bis zu seinem Tod 1930 verbringt der ehemalige Verdingbub aus dem Emmental sein Leben in der psychiatrischen Klinik Waldau bei Bern. Die ersten Jahre ist er noch nicht schopferisch tatig, ab 1899 aber versucht er, Gottes Strafe zu entrinnen: zuerst nur zeichnend, spater auch schreibend. Wolflis bildnerisches Schaffen geniesst mittlerweile weltweiten Ruhm, sein dichterisches Werk hingegen ist weitgehend unbekannt. Letzteres ist nicht erstaunlich, sprengen doch seine Texte samtliche literarische Konventionen und scheinen sich dem Verstandnis vorerst in wesentlichen Punkten zu entziehen.
Die vorliegende Arbeit nahert sich Wolflis -komplisziertem- Erzahlwerk aus linguistischer Perspektive. Durch die Analyse der inneren Struktur seiner Sprache bekommen scheinbar unverstandliche Textstellen einen uberraschenden Sinn, und Wolflis "Von der Wiege bis zum Graab" wird in hohem Grade transparent. Den Lesenden erschliesst sich eine faszinierend unkonventionelle Welt von "Starrkrampfdelinquenten, vaterlichen Sauerampfern, im Abendwind fliegenden Kindern" sowie "friedlich und vergnugt Pfeife rauchenden Ozeanen," in der Wolfli nicht nur uber sein Dasein in der Waldau klagt, sondern auch als Kind Doufi die ganze Welt bereist. Zudem wird mit der in "-Ein Diener Gotes, ohne Kopf-" angewandten linguistischen Methode ein Instrumentarium vorgestellt, das auch zur Entschlusselung anderer sogenannt psychotischer oder hermetischer Texte einen wichtigen Beitrag leisten konnte."
About the Author: Die Autorin: Ursula Gehbauer Tichler wurde 1965 in Aarau geboren. Nach dem Besuch der Alten Kantonsschule Aarau studierte sie in Zurich Germanistik und Anglistik. 1994 erhielt sie ein niederlandisches Regierungsstipendium und verbrachte folglich zwei Jahre als Doktorandin am Deutschen Seminar der Universitat Utrecht. Promotion in Zurich 1997. Seit Ende 1996 lebt die Autorin im Engadin."
