Im ersten Kapitel wird der Begriff "Industrie 4.0", der in Deutschland stellvertretend für die Digitalisierung genutzt wird, näher betrachtet. Neue Technologien, die später auch ihre Anwendung im Einkaufen finden, werden im Zuge der Digitalisierung entwickelt. Daher spielt die Digitalisierung in der Industrie eine entscheidende Rolle für die Entwicklung hin zum Einkauf 4.0. Das zweite Kapitel befasst sich ausführlich mit dem Thema Einkauf an sich. Hierzu wird im ersten Abschnitt der Arbeit die Entwicklung der Industrie hin zu Industrie 4.0 betrachtet, da diese die treibende Kraft für die Entwicklung des Einkaufs ist. Im zweiten Abschnitt wird die Entwicklung des Einkaufs, die Prozesse, die Technologien der Digitalisierung sowie hilfreiche Tools ausführlich vorgestellt und erklärt. Im dritten Kapitel stellt der Autor drei mögliche Zukunftsszenarien, für die Entwicklung des Einkaufs 4.0 vor. Diese wurden durch Kleemann und Glas in ihrem Buch "Einkauf 4.0 - Digitale Transformation der Beschaffung" beschrieben und werden durch den Autor dieser Arbeit hinterfragt und erklärt. Abschließend erfolgt eine kurze Zusammenfassung der drei Hauptkapitel sowie eine kurze Stellungnahme des Autors. Der Einkauf spielt für den Erfolg eines Unternehmens schon immer eine entscheidende Rolle. Im Wesentlichen besteht die Aufgabe des Einkaufs darin, das Unternehmen mit den benötigten Ressourcen und Materialien zu versorgen. Diese müssen für die Prozesse zur richtigen Zeit, in der richtigen Menge, am richtigen Ort, zum richtigen Preis, beschafft werden. Die Digitalisierung und die dadurch entstehenden Möglichkeiten wirken sich stark auf den Einkauf eines Unternehmens aus. Inzwischen übernimmt der Einkauf immer mehr eine strategische Funktion, wodurch der Einkauf weiter an Bedeutung
