Este es un libro completamente nuevo, a excepción del que le da el título: El último habitante de Macondo, que surge como catarsis para deshacerme de la influencia de García Márquez luego de leer Cien años de soledad. Por esas cosas de la vida, el cuento cayó en manos del periodista barranquillero, miembro del Grupo de Barranquilla, que entre otros conformaba Gabriel García Márquez, Germán Vargas Cantillo. A don Germán le gustó mucho el cuento y me escribió a Tegucigalpa. Se lo dio a leer a García Márquez, y ambos decidieron publicarlo en la celebración de los 100 años del Magazín Dominical de El Espectador, El último habitante de Macondo fue el centro de este número (#213 Magazín Dominical, El Espectador, Bogotá Abril 26 1987), con ilustración exclusiva de la gran diseñadora colombiana Michi Peláez, misma de la portada. Como escribió el ensayista y poeta de la Universidad de Paris, Roberto Armijo (salvadoreño): "este cuento es el mejor homenaje a Gabriel García Márquez". Yo creo que el homenajeado también fui yo, con que me publicaran esos dos grandes maestros. Así es la vida. Y los demás cuentos mejor no se los cuento porque están contados, mejor cuénteme usted, luego de leerlos, qué le han parecido. "El autor logra una excelente y acertada fusión de imaginación y realidad. Un lenguaje claro y eficaz, manejado con pleno dominio de las posibilidades, en forma diestra y lúcida... About the Author: Roberto Quesada, a quien el prestigioso escritor norteamericano Kurt Vonnegut ha llamado: "Claro, vivaz y muy talentoso escritor", nació en Honduras, en 1963. Es autor de El desertor (cuentos, 1985), Los barcos (novela, 1988), que ha gozado de gran éxito en Estados Unidos Big Banana, su tercera novela, también tuvo una magnífica acogida en Estados Unidos en 1999, y de igual manera su edición en español (Seix Barral, 2000). Su obra ha recibido favorables comentarios de importantes publicaciones literarias, como The New York Times Book Review y Babelia (El País, España). Desde 1989 reside en Nueva York. Diplomático de Honduras ante las Naciones Unidas hasta el 2010, de donde fue expulsado a raíz de su férrea oposición al Golpe de Estado, asestado al presidente Manuel Zelaya Rosales, el 28 de junio del 2009. Ha recibido el Premio del Instituto Latinoamericano de Escritores en los Estados Unidos, 1996. Y en su faceta periodística recibió el Premio Nacional de Periodismo "Jacobo Cárcamo", Honduras, 2009. Es analista internacional para HispanTV, mantiene una columna en Diario Tiempo de Honduras y colabora para varios medios latinoamericanos y españoles. Su más reciente novela es El Equilibrista (Alfaguara 2013).
