Salvatore Vivacqua, Totò to his close friends, is the head of the Turin Police Investigation Brigade. Sicilian by origin, he loves Turin although he has trouble dealing with its unrepentant rain. However, he will soon have more serious reasons to worry: Pierluigi Paternostro, a renowned artist, has been savagely murdered. Who could hate him so much?

The victims begin to turn up one after another, and pressure from the media and his superiors grows: Vivacqua has three days to find the culprit. In his role he'll have the help of Dr. Silvano Meucci, an official who's a Napoleon fanatic and who will be key to understanding the movements of the mysterious assassin. Meanwhile, another small domestic drama demands his attention: Tommy, the beloved family dog, has disappeared.
