Today, Evered turns sixteen. He was planning to join a party in his honour that Princeon, his best friend, was throwing for him. His mother had other plans, but, hey, mothers have always been excellent guinea pigs for practising those irresistible, persuasive smiles that are supposed to take you a long way in life...
So, party it is!
Evered, like his friends, is an enchanter. He lives among us sleepers. They keep a low profile, even though we are unlikely to notice them at all, because we have not been awakened - and the chances are we never will be - to the special powers that enchanters possess. They can sense the vibrational frequencies of all creation and manipulate them according to their personal wizardry. The children of enchanters are born into six wizardries, the wizardry of Power, Mind, Emotions, Creativity, Physicality, and Mystique. Thus, they are called Rulers, Mens, Sensuses, Rerums, Warriors, and Mystics, divided eternally by the virtues and vices of their wizardries.
Evered is a Warrior. He likes his wizardry and tries hard to honour its purpose in the universe but, most of all, he hopes his very much physical wizardry will help him shape up and somehow attract Kenzie Achens, his all-the-rage, completely out of his league, beautiful schoolmate.
Kenzie Achens... She was born into the vices of the wizardry of power, and she is attracted to him all right, but for all the wrong reasons.
Now, picture this: you're a teenager. You have special powers, but others like you have them too, so, all in all, you don't see yourself as all that special. You even might feel worthless sometimes, but still cocky enough to dream about the most beautiful girl in school noticing you.
Now, imagine that you're faced with a life-ending dilemma - you have to give up who you are, your body, the awareness of everything you've ever experienced to save that special minority of people like yourself, to save the enchanters... But on the other hand, you can ignore all that and try to kiss the girl.
So, what would you do? Remember, you're a teenager with a teenage brain... So, what would you do? Tick tock, Tick Tock... time is running out... What would you do?
