Marcellite was a mischievous, willful, sophisticated, and thoroughly Southern woman - and the granddaughter of William Louis Dolive, the protagonist in A Touch of Glory! She loved to tell stories about her experiences; based on the delightful nature of these stories, her life had to be shared.
Engaging Life focuses on highlights from various stages of her life, from childhood till her death at 102.
She was shaped by: WW I, living in several southern cities, the Roaring 20s, the Great Depression, an abusive first marriage, WW II and living three years in post-war Germany, the Korean Conflict, Huntsville and the space race, Orlando and caring for her mother on the historic family grove, and travel.
Following the death of her Army career husband, Eddie, she remarried and travelled the U.S., spending summers in Chautauqua, NY, and winters in Winter Park, FL. Following the death of husband #3, Kenneth; she continued to travel overseas with her NYC-based, stage manager nephew or a friend.
Everywhere she went, Marcellite wanted to engage with other people and their activities. Having no children of her own, she was a cherished "mother" or "grandmother" to her families by marriage. Wherever she traveled, she was sensitive to some impoverished people and unrelentingly harsh about others, primarily post-war Germans. And, wherever, she was highly social and loved to have fun.
