Examensarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich VWL - Mikroökonomie, allgemein, Note: 2,0, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (Institut für Wirtschaftswissenschaften), Veranstaltung: Zulassungsarbeit für das erste Staatsexamen für das Lehramt am Gymnasium in Bayern, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der Zusammenhang zwischen dem Einkommen eines Privathaushaltes und seinen Konsumausgaben, insbesonders für Nahrung, beschäftigt schon seit Jahrhunderten die Wirtschaftsstatistik. Ernst Engel hat 1857 zum ersten Mal schriftlich festgehalten, dass je höher das Einkommen einer Person oder Familie ist, desto kleiner ist der Anteil der Ausgaben, den sie für Ernährung ausgeben müssen. Ebenso gilt in diesem Fall die Umkehrung, das heißt also, je höher die prozentualen Ausgaben eines Haushaltes für Ernährung sind, desto kleiner ist das gesamte Einkommen dieses Privathaushaltes. Das Gesetz, das sich daraus entwickelt hat, steht im Mittelpunkt dieser Arbeit. Aber nicht nur Engel hat sich Gedanken zu dem Zusammenhang Einkommen - Konsumausgaben gemacht, sondern zum Beispiel auch John Maynard Keynes, allerdings mehr für makroökonomie Zwecke. In seiner "General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money" von 1936 schreibt er: "The amount that the community spends on consumption obviously depends (i) partly on the amount of its income, (ii) partly on the other objective attendant circumstances, and (iii) partly on the subjective needs and the psychological propensities and habits of the individuals composing it and the principles on which the income is divided between them (...). Da Keynes annimmt, dass sich die unter (iii) genannten Neigungen und Gewohnheiten kurzfristig nicht ändern, ebenso wie erwartete Umstände bei (ii), geht er davon aus, dass kurzfristige Veränderungen der Verbrauchergewohnheiten hauptsächlich durch Einkommensveränderungen hervorgerufen werden.
