About the Book

Equipment, machines, and the human system are all part of a transportation system line. Human adaptability and versatility contributed to the development of transportation equipment. A load bearer is a person who assists others by carrying items or heavy materials. The variety of services provided by a load bearer is vast, ranging from transporting luggage on a train (a railroad porter) to carrying heavy loads in inclement weather at high altitude on multi-month mountaineering expeditions (mountain porters). They have the ability to hold objects on their backs or feet. In many third-world countries where motorised travel is inefficient or scarce, porters are already charged to pass responsibilities. Manual Material Handling (MMH) is a necessary part of many occupations and activities. It usually entails manually lifting, dragging, moving, and handling items. MMH tasks in the workplace include loading and unloading alliances, carts, bins, or crates; transferring pieces or assemblies from one location to another; loading paper to the copy machine or picking binders from an overhead shelf; removing patients from bed or moving them in a wheelchair. In most offices, manual materials processing procedures are performed. Each handling job has its own set of requirements for the worker.

Any work that requires heavy lifting or manual material handling carries a high risk of injury. Lifting is a part of manual material handling, but it also involves climbing, pressing, dragging, and pivoting, both of which can cause back injuries. Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) mainly comprised of strains and sprains to the, shoulders, and lower back and upper limbs. Potentially injurious tasks may involve bending and twisting, repetitive motions, carrying or lifting heavy loads, and maintaining fixed positions for a long time. MMH under these conditions can lead to damaged muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, and blood vessels.

Work-related health problems including musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) are experienced by manual handling workers across all types of jobs and work sectors, and to many, it has become a fact of life. However, some types of work groups seem to be particularly at higher risk of these problems. Building construction and brick-making workers perform tedious and strenuous activities daily for long hours that lead to musculoskeletal pain/injury which affects diverse parts of the body. Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) accounts for over 50% of total work-related health problems experienced by workers across various work sectors
