Mit der Forschungsfrage: "Welches sind die Herausforderungen im Innovationsmanagement von Biotech-Startups in den Life Sciences in der Schweiz?" möchte die Autorin den Erfolgsfaktoren auf den Grund gehen. Mit Experteninterviews wird die aktuelle Situation der Unternehmen und des Life Science Umfelds beleuchtet und analysiert. Welche Faktoren können ein junges Unternehmen wichtige Zeit oder sogar das Überleben kosten, was es in so einem dynamischen Marktumfeld schnell zurückwerfen kann? Um unnötigen Fehlern entgegenzuwirken und die Fehlerquote zu senken, ist im Interesse der Autorin einen Beitrag zu den Erfolgsfaktoren für ein besseres Überleben der Startups zu geben. Es gibt zahlreiche Literatur zu Innovationsmanagement. Diese bezieht sich jedoch meist auf Grossunternehmen. Bei Kleinunternehmen oder Startups ist diese kaum erforscht, obwohl Innovation einen essentiellen Überlebensfaktor der heutigen Unternehmen darstellt. Ebenso ist kaum Literatur in diesem Zusammenhang mit der Life Science Branche zu finden. Die Life Sciences ist eine komplexe, vielfältige und wachsende Industrie, welche unserer aller Zukunft mitgestalten wird. Es geht nicht nur um die Gesundheit. Themengebiete wie personalisierte Medizin, Künstliche Intelligenz, Big Data sowie Gentherapie werden die Menschenleben verändern und prägen. Die Innovationen gehen meist aus Forschungsarbeiten an den Universitäten heraus. Mit der Hoffnung als Biotechnologie-Unternehmen den Durchbruch zu schaffen und zuletzt das Unternehmen an ein Pharmaunternehmen zu verkaufen oder das Patent auszulizenzieren.
