Jedoch sind es nun mehr über 21 Jahrhunderte dokumentierter Menschheitsgeschichte, ein Jahrestag jagt den nächsten und jeder Kalendertag zwingt uns wieder, ein bedeutungsschwangeres Jubiläum zu feiern. Die Flut an Informationen vervielfacht sich fortlaufend, die Devise: Alles Wissen, ohne zu vergessen. Doch ist vergessen tatsächlich ein negativer Zustand des Körpers? Unterschätzen oder missdeuten wir den Aspekt des Vergessens? Als einer der Ersten war es Friedrich Nietzsche, der die geistige Tätigkeit des Vergessens hervorrief und ihr in seiner zweiten Unzeitgemäßen Betrachtung eine stärkere Bedeutung zutrat. In dieser Betrachtung "Vom Nutzen und Nachteil der Historie für das Leben", erschienen 1874, verbirgt sich nicht nur eine kritisch, polemische Schrift gegen das vorherrschende Geschichtsbild, sondern gerade durch vielschichtige Thesen und Denkanstöße, ein Fundament für darauffolgende Werke Nietzsches. Anhand der Bedeutsamkeit des Werkes, soll die folgende Arbeit keineswegs eine Analyse der gesamten Schrift nach sich ziehen aber wohl auf einen weniger präsenten Aspekt aufmerksam machen. Infolgedessen wird in der nachstehenden Abhandlung der Versuch angestrebt, entgegen allgemeiner Rezeption, die sich kritisch mit der von Nietzsche vorgebrachten triadischen Unterteilung der Historie in monumentale, antiquarische und kritische befassten, den Antagonismus zwischen Erinnern und Vergessen herauszuarbeiten. Somit ist es die Aufgabe, anhand des Textes "Vom Nutzen und Nachteil der Historie für das Leben" die Deutung von Erinnern und Vergessen zu erfassen und sich die Frage zu stellen, ob wir dem Vergessen nicht doch eine höhere Priorität zugestehen sollten, als es die allgemeine Wahrnehmung uns aufzeigt.
