West-Berlin 1980, eine lebhafte Weltstadt, in der trotz der Berliner Mauer ringsum das städtische Leben pulsiert und die dunklen Schatten des Kalten Krieges gnädig überdeckt. Diese, in vier Sektoren aufgeteilte Stadt ist nicht nur ein allgemeiner Kriminalitätsbrennpunkt, sondern auch ein ertragsreiches Feld für die Geheimdienste aus aller Welt und bietet so den Hintergrund für diesen Roman. In dieser Zeit, in der an eine politische Wende oder gar an die Wiedervereinigung überhaupt noch nicht zu denken ist, in der es weder Handys noch gerichtsverwertbare DNA-Untersuchungen gibt, arbeiten die Beamten der Mordkommissionen unermüdlich, die anfallenden Tötungsdelikte aufzuklären. Das Auftreten eines Serienmörders sorgt für eine bedrückende Unruhe und allgemeine Verängstigung in der Stadt. Die Suche nach diesem Täter, der ohne erkennbares Motiv und ohne offenbare Beziehungen junge Frauen umbringt, wird der Kommission des Kriminalhauptkommissars Detlef Boll übertragen. Diese Aufklärungsarbeit gestaltet sich höchst problematisch und führt ihn und die Mitarbeiter seines Teams nicht selten an die physischen und psychischen Grenzen. Erschwerend kommt bei der Ermittlungsarbeit hinzu, dass auch das Ministerium für Staatssicherheit der DDR auf der Suche nach brisanten Unterlagen im Westteil der Stadt agiert. Ein Umstand, der den beauftragten Agenten zielstrebig auch in die Nähe der Mordkommission führt. Trotz der eigenen persönlichen Probleme, die jeder dieser Beamten mit sich herumschleppt, irritiert durch Stasi-Aktivitäten und begleitet von Rückschlägen verzeichnet die Mordkommission durch beharrliche Polizeiarbeit dennoch Ermittlungserfolge, die sie in die Nähe Tatverdächtiger bringt und in denen sich die Persönlichkeit des Täters in Umrissen herausschält. Die Suche nach einem hochintelligenten und klar planenden Triebtäter wird zu einem Wettlauf mit der Zeit.
About the Author: Jürgen Betsch, Jahrgang 1943, ist Diplomverwaltungswirt und Erster Kriminalhauptkommissar im Ruhestand. Er war selbst Leiter einer Berliner Mordkommission und jahrelang mit der Untersuchung verdächtiger Todesfälle betraut. Der Familienvater und ehemalige Leistungssportler ist zum Fitnessfreak und Naturliebhaber geworden. Interessante Kriminalfälle lassen ihn auch heute noch nicht ganz los.
