La originalidad de este estudio reside en agrupar bajo el mismo epigrafe de «ecritura femenina» tres novelas de «firma masculina» Extramuros de Jesús Fernández Santos, Memoria de Noa de Alfredo Conde y La soledad era esto de Juan José Millas, junto a tres de «firma femenina» La función Delta de Rosa Montero, Urraca de Lourdes Ortiz e Historia de una maestra de Josefina Aldecoa. Las modalidades o subgéneros varían; asumen la forma de confesión, de crónica histórica, de memoria o de diario, pero todos ellos se convierten en el espacio textual donde la protagonista femenina articula su voz y da expresión a los aspectos mas íntimos de su experiencia.
About the Author: La autora: Isolina Ballesteros es profesora asistente del Departamento de Lenguas Romances de Harvard University. Se licenció en Filología Francesa en la Universidad de Zaragoza, España, en 1982. Obtuvo su doctorado en Literatura Hispánica en Boston University en 1992, donde también fue profesora asistente. Sus investigaciones y publicaciones más recientes se centran en la escritura femenina en España y en Latinoaméricana y en la relación entre el cine y la literatura contemporánea española. Otros trabajos anteriores muestran asimismo un fuerte interés por la literatura comparada. Ha publicado en revistas de literatura en España sobre temas tan variados como la presencia de Cervantes en la obra de Henry Fielding o la contribución europea a la literatura de la Guerra Civil española. Ha colaborado en varios libros sobre escritura femenina en los Estados Unidos.
