Wer hat nicht schon mal einen Band von Marcel Prousts 'Auf der Suche nach der verlorenen Zeit' in den Händen gehabt, gar zu lesen angefangen, ist aber bei allem Bemühen nicht sehr weit damit gekommen. Das vorliegende Buch soll Lust darauf machen, einen neuen Anlauf zu wagen, um einen der größten und schönsten Romane der Weltliteratur kennenzulernen und zu genießen. Denn die 'Recherche' ist ein köstliches literarisches Vergnügen, eine intellektuelle Herausforderung, ein Entdecker-Abenteuer. Bei der Lektüre taucht man ein in die Zeitgeschichte der Belle Époque bis hin zum Ersten Weltkrieg, man bewegt sich in den Kultursparten Literatur, Theater, Malerei, Musik, Architektur, Mode etc. -- und wird reichlich belohnt beim Verweilen im allzu weiten Feld menschlicher Gefühle und Erfahrungen. Kurz: die 'Recherche' ist ein Bildungsroman. Um die Lektüre dieses 'ozeanischen Romans' (Ingeborg Bachmann) zu erleichtern, habe ich meine Leseerfahrungen und meine Sicht auf Prousts Hauptwerk in 28 'Aufzügen' und in einer Vielzahl von 'Bildern' zusammengefasst -- und damit in eine Form gebracht, die zum einen lesbar und zu bewältigen ist, zum anderen aber auch dazu verführen soll, sich so gerüstet und zu gegebener Zeit dem originalen Text selbst zuzuwenden, der inzwischen in schönen neuen beziehungsweise revidierten Übersetzungen vorliegt. Erstleser sind häufig schon mit dem Beginn des Romans überfordert -- da schläft der Autor nämlich ein. Kaum verwunderlich, dass sogar Leute wie Christian Berkel beim ersten Versuch das Buch im hohen Bogen in die Ecke warfen. Aber er hat dann einen zweiten Versuch unternommen -- und war beglückt. Zu diesem Glück der Proust-Lektüre will das vorliegende Buch hinführen. 'Mein Buch ist ein Gemälde', sagt Proust über seinen Roman. Und in diesem Gemälde ist 'Platz für alle Facetten des Menschlichen -- für Koketterie, für Scham, für Fettnäpfchen, für Grausamkeit, den Wankelmut des Herzens, Aufstiegswillen, Abstiegsangst, Snobismus' (Doris Anselm) -- 'nichts
