In der heutigen Gesellschaft, insbesondere in den westlichen Industrieländern, wird dem Essen oftmals, resultierend aus dem Nahrungsüberschuss, dem Individualismus sowie der starken Konsumorientierung und der Entwicklung eines funktionalistischen entpersonalisierten Körperbildes, eine missbräuchliche Funktion zugeschrieben. Psychische Konflikte und soziale Probleme werden durch Essen scheinbar kompensiert, denn Essen und Trinken hält bekanntlich "Leib und Seele" zusammen. Die Reaktionen auf emotionale Spannungen sind vielfältig; manche Menschen zeichnen sich dadurch aus, dass sie Unmengen an Nahrung zu sich nehmen, andere reduzieren diese auf ein Minimum. Das vermehrte Auftreten von Essstörungen stellt daher im Leistungssport schon lange keine Seltenheit mehr dar. Grund dafür ist das Erbringen von Spitzenleistungen, die eine Vielzahl von eigenverantwortlichen Maßnahmen erfordern, wie beispielsweise die Teilnahme an einem qualitativ hochwertigen Training. Dabei gewinnt die Optimierung trainingsbegleitender Maßnahmen sowie das sportliche Umfeld an zunehmender Bedeutung für den Athleten. Trotz steigender Zahlen der Erkrankungen werden die Athleten in dieser Angelegenheit oft alleine gelassen. Das Tabuisieren des Themas und die Unwissenheit der Trainer, Eltern und Betreuer über diese Krankheit führt oftmals dazu, dass es nicht nur die Leistungen der Sportler negativ beeinflusst, sondern auch die Gefahr einer gesundheitlichen Störung nicht rechtzeitig erkannt wird. Inwieweit Leistungssportler mit ihrem Aussehen zufrieden und inwiefern sie ihr Gewicht unverändert lassen wollen, sind Fragen, die im Rahmen dieser Studie untersucht werden. Darüber hinaus ist zu klären, ob bestimmte Einflüsse, wie Alter, Sportdisziplin und Persönlichkeitsmerkmale auf die potentielle Erkrankung an Essstörungen bestehen oder es doch eher extrinsisch beeinflussende Faktoren sind, die das eigene Empfinden lenken.
About the Author: Eva Bartl, im Januar 1985 in Bad Langensalza, Thüringen, geboren, wohnhaft in Kassel. Nach der Hochschulreife 2004 Lehramtstudium für Gymnasien an der Universität Kassel für die Fächer Anglistik/Amerikanistik, Sportwissenschaften und Geographie. Abschluss des Ersten Staatsexamens geplant für Herbst 2010. Besonderes Interesse für den Bereich Sportpsychologie, Vertiefung des Themas durch Anfertigung der Arbeit zum Thema "Essstörungen im Leistungssport". Fortführung des wissenschaftlichen Arbeitens und Forschens, in Hinblick auf eine Promotion im sportpsychologischen Bereich, wird angestrebt.
