About the Book

Ethan, Site 39 Have you ever tried to imagine what the world might be like if all signs of civilization suddenly vanished and you had an opportunity to re-invent humanity from scratch? The author did so. His imaginative writing places the reader into the life of Ethan, a young geologist and farmer who finds himself on the threshold of a new world of discovery. The author weaves an exciting tale, drawing the reader into close friendship and identification with Ethan and his friends. Each chapter entwines now threads into the tapestry. leading to growing curiosity and anticipation about what surprise or mystery could be coming next. First in a series of "Site 39" novels, "Ethan" will leave the reader looking forward to the next steps of the continuing saga. Ethan, Site 39, and coming sequels, are reminiscent of Sci-Fi of the '40s and '50s. They are appropriate for young teens as well as senior readers who appreciated Sci-Fi in their younger years.
About the Author: Otis V. Goodwin III was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1935. His early life experiences were typical of a small boy in a southern town; Fourth of July celebrations, mandatory Baptist Church exposure, swimming in a muddy creek, bicycling all over the countryside, helping to build a house, hayrides, football, and summers working on an aunt and uncle's farm. The year 1942 found the Author in Seattle, Washington. World War II caused the family to move there as his father performed work for the US Navy. The rented house on 13th Avenue was full of books that captured his imagination. After the war and through 1950, the B.B. Comer Library in Sylacauga, Alabama became an important part of the Author's life. The kind, friendly and patient libarians there provided guidance that led through many authors such as H.G. Wells, Jules Verne, Roy Rockwood, Robert Heinlein, Ray Bradbury, and even William Beebe and Raymond Ditmars, to name a very few. They sometimes looked the other way if there were more books than the limit in the checkout pile, on a summer Friday afternoon. That early life reading stimulated an inquisitive streak, and interests, that led to life-long continuing education and a career of public service with the U.S. Government in the business end of the aerospace industry. The language of missiles, rockets and spacecraft became very familiar tools. As with many, a story line began to evolve subconsciously, over many years, without ever a pen set to paper. After the career ended, it was time to write something. There was nothing better to do than write an up-to-date version of the type of story that evoked the young boy's inquisitive streak and led to the interesting and sometimes exciting career of the young boy from the deep south. Those Librarians in Sylacauga deserve a very special thank you. "Ethan - Site 39" is but the first volume. "Site 39, Blue Orb" is the second. There are several more volumes in the Site 39 Series in the computer awaiting the finish and print processes. The author is retired, writing at leisure, at home in a small town in Washington State with his wife of 34 years, Elizabeth, and miniature Schnauzers, Abigail and Archibald.
