About the Book

Second edition of Ishmael Fiifi Annobil's acclaimed and rare collection of poems dedicated to the African Diaspora and others enduring similar historical realities. "Ethiop is thoughtfully crafted from post-colonial fragments, haunted by the dashed dreams of African and European modernities..." -- Tom Cheesman (New Welsh Review, March 2004)
About the Author: Ishmael Fiifi Annobil was born in 1958, in Ghana, where he started an early career in poetry and journalism. He has lived in the Sudan and Kenya, where he worked as a reporter and compiled his poetry, culminating in his acclaimed recital, Criers on The Thresholds of Reality (Nairobi 1983). He came to England as a correspondent, in late 1983. Inspired by a radio broadcast on Welsh poetry, he moved with his family to Wales, where he lived for eleven years, founding the international poetry festival, Festival Iolo (formerly Iolo's Children), and the cutting edge arts newspaper, Circa21. He is the founder of online arts journal Chiaroscuro Magazine, and of the international film collective, Stonedog Productions (London). His films include In The Presence of Awe - The Transvangarde (art documentary), Kenji Yoshida - Artist of the Soul (art documentary), Salamander Walks (a surreal feature), and Hornsleth: Product of Love, a documentary about controversial Danish artist Kristian Von Hornsleth. He has published two books of poetry (Seven Horn Elegy and Ethiop), and one music album, Zingliwu. His forthcoming books include Portrait of a Man in Pain (novel), Inklings of Clay (historical novella) and Utopia of the Worms (poetry). A master photographer, his images have been published in various publications, including The Independent Newspaper, and prestigious French magazine M3. Ishmael attended Christian Methodist Secondary School (Accra, Ghana), studied Social Anthropology extramurally at Goldsmith's College, and undertook a PgDip in Visual Communications at West Herts College. He lives in London with his wife, Helen, and their two children, Brendan and Nana Yaa.
