About the Book

"Grandma Tink says," what every puppy needs is... This magical book teaches proper care and treatment of domestic animals, including puppies and kitties, using original, full-color, illustrations by Grandma Tink. Your child will delight in the easily understood directions of how to feed, house, exercise, tag, and yes, even take their pet to the doctor for proper reproductive care. You'll make this a keepsake for your family since it's also a "memory book" with several pages available to attach photos of your family's pets! Originally introduced by volunteers during a grade school reading program, Grandma Tink now offers this delightful book and resulting discussion to all children and their families. By purchasing this book you too become one of "Grandma's Friends" and a portion of the profit goes to supporting the "Grandma's Friends" reading program where volunteers enter school classrooms, in areas with high animal abuse, neglect, and over-population statistics, read to the children, discuss animal care and gift the book to the children. The child is then asked to take the book home and read the book out loud to their caregivers. This helps reinforce proper animal care to people of all ages. Grandma Tink believes we each can improve the lives of thousands of dogs and cats by reading this book to children and educating one child at a time. Like a pebble thrown into a lake our positive effect can ripple through generations of children and their pets. Together, let's educate the children of the world about what every puppy needs... Thank you, Grandma Tink.
About the Author: Ethel "Grandma Tink" Landers' work reflects the pure joy of living and the energy that flows between all living creatures. She gains insight, compassion and renewal via her relationship to people, places, animals and spirit. Ethel's art reflects her Mid-American roots. Born in Terre Haute, Indiana she was adopted by a poor, hard-working couple who'd survived the Great Depression. The family moved west to find jobs where Ethel was taught to value the simple things in life, including family, animals, nature, and art. Being an "only child," her closest companions were dogs, cats, chickens and nature. Her favorite activities were drawing, painting and reading out loud to her pets! Always affectionately called "Tink" by her parents, by 1960 she embraced life based on her widowed mother's unconditional love. She daily witnessed the strength and faith needed by a single woman struggling to make a living at minimum-wage jobs while raising a child. Buoyed by the accomplishment and determination shown by her then sixty-two year old mother when "Mom" returned to school to attain her high school diploma, Ethel returned to college in 1997, at age 47, to study art. She graduated in 2003 from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art and Design, Summa Cum Laude. There she was recognized for her outstanding writing and illustration skills. During this return-to-school period she studied art abroad in Thailand gaining a deep connection to the culture, Theravada Buddhism - and the common themes in all major religions - and she developed a deep love for the Asian Elephant. Ethel's since visited Mexico, Canada, France, Cambodia, Vietnam, Scotland, Ireland and England being blessed by the similarities, beauty, and determination in all cultures, as well as their love for animals. Over a life-time of work, you'll find Ethel's paintings and drawings in many sizes including murals and theater sets for various groups including light operas and elementary schools. Her paintings, drawings and writings often give voice to those without the strength or ability to speak. Believing in unity and the goodness of life, her work often challenges inequities including those affecting animals. You will find Ethel's art and writing filled with color, life, positive energy, and often supporting those without a voice. "Every Puppy Needs... is the first of five books in the series, "Grandma Tink Says...."
