About the Author

Product Description Border Security Force, the largest Border Guarding Force of the world was raised on 1ST Dec 1965. Tasked with inculcating a sense of security, preventing trans-border crimes and smuggling, the force also has a war time role as the first line of defence. This book aims to highlight the role played by the force in ensuring security and integrity of the country about which there is very limited information available in public domain. The force besides guarding the borders has played an important role in controlling militancy in North East, Kashmir, and Punjab. A large strength of the force is presently deployed in central India in Anti Maoist operations. The force also has played an active role in 1971 war with Pakistan, liberation of Bangladesh and Kargil Operations. Force is frequently deployed to assist the civil administration in smooth conduct of Parliament, Legislative assembly and other elections. The force personnel in 54 years of dedicated service to the nation having won many laurels including Padma Bhushan, Padam Shri, Mahavir Chakra and other gallantry and other medals. The contents have been divided into seven chapters which take the reader through the history of evolution of borders of India in the first chapter to evolution of border management in India in the second chapter. The third chapter discusses the organization, Role and equipment of BSF. Fourth and Fifth chapters respectively deal with the role played by BSF in war effort and internal security. The sixth chapter assesses various security challenges faced by BSF on the Eastern and Western Frontiers. The seventh and chapter analyses the future challenges and recommendations for BSF. Written in easy English, it is hoped that the readers will find it informative and useful.About the AuthorSanjiv Krishan Sood has retired as Additional Director General (ADG) of Border Security Force after putting in 38 years of meritorious service serving at all the borders adjoining Pakistan and Bangladesh including 8 years on LoC and in sensitive Samba Sector of Jammu and Kashmir. He has been an instructor on border management and has authored a book which is approved as a reference book for bordermen at BSF Academy. A security analyst, his interests include Border Management, issues of topical interest, role of Security forces in Security Matrix of India, politics and humour. He contributes regularly on above topics in newspapers like Hindustan Times, Strategic Journals like World Focus, Force and Geopolitics and E portals like Quint, Scroll, DailyO, The Leaflet, News Central 24*7, tribuneonline.com etc. Dr Inderjit Singh is currently associate professor at department of defense studies with more 25 years of experience as faculty teaching Defence and Strategic Studies to officers from defence forces who are coming to dept as student and also as research guide to serving general ranking officer(s) from defence forces. Dr Singh is external examiner to various defence institutions for PhD course and key member of Board studies of Defence studies across nation. Dr Singh holds specialization in Military History in which he has earned his PhD from Kanpur University. Monojit Das, is a PhD research scholar and national security enthusiast who has done Bachelors, Masters and M.Phil in Defence and Strategic Studies.

    A Thrilling But Totally Believable Murder Mystery

    Read this in one evening. I had planned to do other things with my day, but it was impossible to put down. Every time I tried, I was drawn back to it in less than 5 minutes. I sobbed my eyes out the entire last 100 pages. Highly recommend!
